Use the directory that matches the person's public role. A teacher is more likely in a school directory. A former homeowner may appear in the recorder or assessor systems. A 1930s resident may be in Richmond and Contra Costa directories, not a modern El Cerrito web list.

El Cerrito School Directories
WCCUSD is the largest local education directory source for El Cerrito. During inspection, the district staff directory showed 6,412 constituents and filters for El Cerrito-area schools including El Cerrito High, Fairmont, Harding, Madera, and Fred T. Korematsu Middle, along with district departments and other west county schools. It lists staff, not students.
The WCCUSD staff directory uses keyword, first-name, last-name, location, and department filters. Entries observed in the research showed staff name, title, and location or department. For former classmates, use historical sources instead: Shadi History Room yearbooks, Richmond Public Library yearbooks, school history files, local newspapers, and family or alumni records where available.
Nearby UC Berkeley Directory
UC Berkeley is not in El Cerrito, but it is a nearby official people directory that can matter for East Bay residents who work, teach, study, or collaborate there. The campus directory includes current faculty, staff, affiliates, and students. It offers simple and advanced search paths, with extended results requiring CalNet login.
The UC Berkeley campus directory supports name, phone, email, department, population, and search-by field choices.
Respect the directory terms. UC Berkeley prohibits commercial redistribution, sale, rental, batch mailing, and compilation uses. Treat it as a current institutional contact directory, not a public resident database.

Public Records as Directories
Several El Cerrito public records function like directories even though they were not created as people lists. RecorderWorks lists recorded parties. The assessor roll and CCMAP connect property owners to parcels and mailing addresses. The voter file lists registered voters only in authorized-use contexts. These directories are powerful because they are official, but each has a legal and practical limit.
RecorderWorks is especially useful as a grantor-grantee directory. A known name can return deeds, deeds of trust, reconveyances, liens, judgments, homesteads, powers of attorney, and maps. Directory caution. A property mailing address can be a strong lead, but it is not proof that the owner currently lives at the El Cerrito situs address.

Historical El Cerrito Directories
Historical El Cerrito people directories are unusually rich because the Shadi History Room is inside City Hall and because west county directories often include early El Cerrito-area residents under adjacent names. Search older names for the place itself. Rust, Stege, Richmond, Rancho San Pablo, Kensington, and unincorporated Contra Costa may all be relevant before a source uses modern El Cerrito consistently.

California Safety Directories
Some public safety databases are directory-like, but they carry strict legal-use limits. Not Public El Cerrito Directories
Several tempting sources are not public people directories. My Voter Status is a self-lookup, not a public voter browser. The voter file is restricted to authorized uses. DMV address data is restricted by federal and California law. The city business license contact route was identified, but a public searchable El Cerrito business-license register was not verified. No city-run cemetery or interment lookup was found in official sources.
When a directory does not exist, use the fallback chain. For city records, contact the department or use a CPRA request.
